The (end of) search for a PDA/ Phone replacement - Part 4

From Part 3:
At some point, after considering my options, I've got to make a decision. So I did. I bought the Nokia e61.
TinkerTailor wrote: "The biggest frustration is that there’s nothing on the market with everything I want. I can have all the money in the world, and I can’t get the one I want."
Heh, I can totally understand that.
After trying out the e61 for almost a day, my verdict is that the Nokia e61 is definitely a compromise (compared to what I had in mind for an "ideal PDA phone") but a darn good one for my needs.
Granted, it doesn't have dedicated PDA features like my Tungsten-T Palm (e.g. categorisation and privacy settings for individual memos; making relatively lengthy notes in calendar). But then my Tungsten-T doesn't have a QWERTY thumb-board; built-in WIFI and Bluetooth (I can now tap onto my home WIFI can check emails and read RSS feeds).
The plugin for iSync worked beautifully (here's saying a big Thank You to MacTomster).
On the downside, the Nokia e61 certainly loses to a Palm in terms of calendering functions. For instance, the e61 alarm will go on and on and on... unless you set it to snooze or turn it off. It behaves like the bedroom alarm clock of mine, which is not a bad thing if you set a Wake-Up call for yourself, but for most other alerts, I don't need to alarm to go on forever till the battery runs out (I've not substantiated this, but it didn't seem to stop sounding for ages). I miss the "Add Note" feature to a calender entry in the Palm.
On the bright side, it has a document writer where I can compose documents to be copied over via Bluetooth or using the data cable. But I seem to face some issues with the compatibility of document formatting though, i.e. some text in the copied documents appear as garbage when copied over, and documents saved as Text Writer format (from the e61) appears garbled. I'll have to read the manual to find out more. I might be doing something wrong.
Overall I found the features intuitive and user-friendly. I have to re-learn some old habits and preferences but that's expected. So ends the search for a PDA & phone replacement. I'm happy with the purchase.
I had help from Lucian (who was also the one who influenced me the most, and who had me considering the Nokia e61 in the first place -- he said "It works beautifully" for him); Kenneth (who commented in an earlier post that had some influence on my purchase decision); Vanessa and Walter (both of whom shared their views on what they know from using PDA phones).
As an aside, blogging about the whole matter was a way for me to review and articulate my requirements (and review again), in order to differentiate "what I needed" Vs "what I wanted". It made the research process more throughout.
Unfortunately, while I felt I'd done enough research regarding the phone, I was a little hasty in signing up for a phone subscription. All because I made a silly calculation error (between the cost of my current phone usage and the cost of the new line). Ah, long story. All I want to share about that is that I'll treat the extra costs as an expensive reminder never to commit to any long term purchase plans without doing the proper homework.
No point crying over spilled milk. Moving on...
Just for my reference -- Vanessa recommends this retailer who has a wide range of cases for PDA Phones. Expensive ones, I think 'cos Vanessa has expensive tastes! But good to know (the retailer, I mean) if I need to look for a cover.
